What really makes Peace By Piece unique is our team of passionate professionals who believe in what we do. PXP Staff strive to make an impact on everything and everyone we touch: children, families, and the community. The fun and exciting environment can be seen the moment you enter our clinic. Our happy, informal and friendly environment is reflected in the colorful decor, adorable pictures of our "PXP Family" of clients as well as our staff’s smiles and the children’s laughter. We believe autism impacts the entire family, so we support parents and caregivers by having an open door policy where parents are welcome to observe in-clinic therapy sessions with their child as well as inviting all family members and caregivers to our free of charge, semi monthly training sessions that are deliver by Dr. Terrasi.
What we do at Peace By Piece is based on the verbal behavior approach. We always initially form a friendship with the child by pairing ourselves with reinforcement. We only make few, if any demands, keeping the level of reinforcement for learning high and the value of escapelow. Our first "demand" is to teach the child to mand for (request) what s/he wants. This is completely functional, since it gives the kids an appropriate and effective way to communicate needs and wants. Gradually, we increase the "demands," in order to teach the child to label everything in his/her environment as well as, to read, write, converse, and all the other functional educational things. Since every child is different, we develop an individualized program tailored to meet his or her specific needs. We use the principles of verbal behavior and use tools such as the VB-MAPP as well as the ABLLS, to assess skill strengths and deficits and guide program development. Data is taken before and throughout therapy. Therapy practices are frequently revised to ensure continued progress.
